Meizu is planning to launch a clamshell foldable smartphone

0 22

Meizu is back, to say the least. The company has released three smartphones after pausing launches for about a year and a half. The company launched its Meizu 20 flagship lineup consisting of three phones very recently. Meizu doesn’t plan to stop there, though, as it is planning to launch a clamshell foldable.

Meizu seems to be planning to launch a clamshell foldable smartphone

This device will, in fact, become Meizu’s very first foldable smartphone in general. Meizu’s vice president confirmed last month that the company will launch a foldable by the end of this year, and now we suspect it’s a flip phone.

A patent surfaced showing us what the device may look like. You can see the design in a sketch below. It’s exactly what you’d expect. We’re looking at flat sides here, and the device will offer a gapless design when folded.

This design does remind us of the Galaxy Z Flip 4, which is not a bad thing at all. It will most likely be made out of metal and glass, like most other devices of a similar variety. We’re only guessing, though.

Not much is known about it thus far, though. No spec info surfaced or anything like that. Chances are it will have rather powerful specifications, however, we’ll have to wait and see.

Meizu got acquired by Geely back in 2022

Meizu has been acquired by Geely in mid-2022. That company owns Volvo, Polestar, Lotus, and a number of other companies. Geely seemed quite serious about boosting Meizu, and trying to break into the smartphone market.

Meizu seems to be making a comeback, which is a good thing from the competition standpoint. Meizu was once a very interesting company that had immense growth. They did take a couple of wrong turns, though, and then basically fell off the map.

For years this company has been launching a couple of phones per year, until it stopped doing so altogether. Well, Geely is trying to put things back into place. Back in December 2022, it was announced that Meizu will expand its product portfolio quite considerably.

The Meizu 20 series launched in China, but we’re hoping Meizu has sights set on other markets too.
