It comes equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 engine that features a 48V mild-hybrid system. The engine generates a maximum power of 557 PS and 730 Nm of torque. The hybrid system adds another 22 PS and a 250 Nm boost on demand. The power is sent to all four wheels through a 9-speed automatic transmission.

The X1 of the first generation came with 1 petrol and 1 diesel engine options, which were a 2.0-liter petrol engine making 150 bhp and 200 Nm of torque, while the other was a 2.0-liter diesel engine that made around 184 bhp and 380 Nm of torque.
