0 23

Meta has announced that it will add support for the playback of Spatial videos recorded using the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max to the Quest 3, Quest Pro, and Quest 2 headsets with the Meta Quest Build 62.0 software update, which, it will start rolling out on 7 February 2024. The company has made the announcement right on the heels of the launch of the Apple Vision Pro, which is currently the only other mixed-reality (MR) headset that supports the playback of Spatial videos recorded using the two phones.

Once you update your Meta headset to Meta Quest Build 62.0, you will be able to transfer Spatial videos from your iPhone 15 Pro or the iPhone 15 Pro Max to the Meta headset using the Meta Quest mobile app. Keep in mind that the three headsets will support Spatial videos with a length of up to 20 minutes. Meta is also offering sample Spatial videos with the upcoming update, which you can find “in the Spatial videos section of the Files app.”

What is a Spatial video?

A Spatial video is a type of three-dimensional (3D) video that contains depth information of objects in a scene to offer a 3D effect. When you play a Spatial video on mixed-reality headsets, such as the Apple Vision Pro or three headsets from Meta, you will be able to differentiate between foreground, midground, and background objects in a scene for a 3D viewing experience. However, when you play this video on other devices, such as smartphones, laptops, or TVs, it will look like a regular, two-dimensional (2D) video.
