Meta brings end-to-end encryption to Facebook Messenger by default

In an official blog, Meta announced that it is bringing end-to-end encryption to Facebook Messenger. Notably, end-to-end encryption will be enabled by default on Messenger, giving you that extra bit of safety while you converse with your loved ones. Apart from end-to-end encryption for Facebook Messenger, Meta is also adding the ability to edit messages.
Facebook Messenger is one of the most used instant messaging applications, even though there is a huge migration of people from Facebook to Instagram and other social media platforms. Now, thanks to end-to-end encryption, Facebook Messenger has become a much more secure option. This is not a new feature and has been offered to Facebook Messenger users since 2016, but the fact is that it had to be manually turned on.
Facebook Messenger is also getting the ‘Disappearing Messages’ feature
Now, end-to-end encryption will be turned on by default for chats and calls for everyone. Meta says, “We take our responsibility to protect your messages seriously and we’re thrilled that after years of investment and testing, we’re able to launch a safer, more secure, and private service.”
Additionally, Facebook is also getting some features, such as the ability to send high-quality photos and videos. However, according to Meta, this feature is upgraded for a small number of Messenger users, and it will gradually roll out to others in the coming months. Also, Meta is adding users to edit the message within 15 minutes of sending it, and the app will get the ‘Disappearing Messages’ feature, where the message will vanish after 24 hours.
