Twitter has gone through a lot of changes, including ownership (now owned by billionaire Elon Musk). You can say there have been some good changes and some bad changes, but it is what it is. Well, if you are looking to bail out of Twitter because of the severely limiting things that have happened to it, you don’t have to wait much longer. Instagram‘s Twitter-like app, Threads, is launching this week.

Yes. Instagram Threads is expected to launch on July 6, 2023, according to the App Store listing. So it will be for Apple iPhone users later this week. This is in line with the listing of the Instagram Threads app that briefly popped up on the Google Play Store on Saturday with similar screenshots and details as the App Store. The app is, notably, still listed on the Play Store. However, there isn’t an official date mentioned for Instagram Threads.

The Instagram Threads app is yet to go live on Google Play Store

The official description of the Instagram Threads app says that it is a place where communities come together to discuss everything from the topics you care about today to what’ll be trending tomorrow. Users can connect with their favorite creators and build a community of like-minded people, similar to what Twitter has been offering for years.

According to the screenshots, you have to use your Instagram account to log in to Instagram Threads and find accounts you follow on Instagram on the new app. You can post in the same way Twitter lets you do. Instagram Threads might see a huge inflow of users because of Twitter’s new change that has blocked unregistered users from seeing tweets.

It remains to be seen if Twitter will be overtaken by Threads or other similar social media platforms like Blusky and Mastodon.
