Mobvoi’s Next Smartwatch Will Be Powered By The Snapdragon W5+

Mobvoi’s next TicWatch smartwatch will be powered by the Snapdragon W5+ platform, the company has confirmed today. Though this isn’t really a huge surprise given Qualcomm’s announcement on July 19.

In that announcement, Qualcomm confirmed its next wearables platforms, the Snapdragon W5 and Snapdragon W5+. It also mentioned that it was working with Mobvoi and Oppo as the two companies who would be among the first to release a smartwatch with these new platforms.

Now Mobvoi itself is confirming, stating its next release will be built using the more powerful of the two. It’s also now teasing its next watch, and has released an image that shows just a tiny bit of the design. Just enough to get people intrigued as to what the entire thing will look like.

The TicWatch with the Snapdragon W5+ will be powerful

Mobvoi doesn’t give any specifics here, but it’s definitely alluding to the next release being a powerful device. It states that with the Snapdragon W5+ on board, the upcoming TicWatch will be “one of the most powerful to date.” That’s all thanks to the improvements Qualcomm has made to the platform.

The big two upgrades of course being improved battery life and performance. Mobvoi says its next watch will have better battery life on a single charge. And although it doesn’t mention exact times, Qualcomm gives some estimates.

Based on the chip manufacturer’s announcement from earlier in the week, Bluetooth connected smartwatches can go from 28 hours to 43 hours. Which the company says is a 50% increase. These are just estimates of course and your own experiences may vary.

But the point is that the Snapdragon W5+ platform will basically take watches from one day to nearly two before recharging is needed.

The watch is coming later this year

Mobvoi’s TicWatch line has been one of the more popular Wear OS options available. In part because the devices are powerful but also because they’ve been affordable. Those looking forward to Mobvoi’s next release will get to see it later this year.

As Mobvoi states that’s when consumers can expect it to launch. The company also says it will share more information about the device in the coming months. Which sounds like an official launch is going to be towards the end of the year.
