Mortal Kombat boss talks Smash Bros. inclusion,

0 48

“Without hesitation”

The current future of Super Smash Bros. is unclear. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate kind of did everything it needed to do, is fully exhaustive from a content perspective, and Nintendo confirmed that the final DLC roster additions are complete. Series head honcho Masahiro Sakurai is also taking a much-needed rest. But that doesn’t prevent other folks from dreaming of what might have been, or what could be! That includes Mortal Kombat boss Ed Boon.

Speaking to Axios, here’s what Boon had to say when asked about his ideal Mortal Kombat roster addition for Smash:

“Scorpion. Not even a hesitation. I guess if they want two, it would be Scorpion and Sub-Zero.”

Boon clarifies that they chose these two because they’re easy to see on the battlefield, and for the former, “it’s cool to see a spear pull somebody,” which current combatant Ridley would know a lot about.

I mean, it’s hard to really argue with him! They have more cartoony designs than a few other “core” Mortal Kombat fighters that would mesh with the Smash aesthetic, and they constantly top “most recognizable characters” polls for the series. Of course, the entire prospect of adding Mortal Kombat characters to Smash is absurd, but then again, there is a precedent (like Metal Gear Solid‘s Snake, or Bayonetta‘s Bayonetta)!

This isn’t the first time someone has weighed in on dream Super Smash Bros. roster additions

As you may recall, Blizzard employees wanted Diablo to make an appearance in the Smash series years back, and multiple creatives have been slowly providing their “dream picks” either directly or indirectly with Nintendo.

Clearly, some of that hard work paid off, as Sora was introduced through a chance meeting with a Disney representative.
