The Motorola Moto X40 is right around the corner. The phone will become official in a couple of days. While we’re waiting for that to happen, the Moto X40 got certified, and it was revealed that it will support 125W charging.

The Motorola XT2301-5 got certified by the 3C authority in China. This model number allegedly belongs to the Motorola Moto X40. Now, those different chargers got certified, a 68W one and a 125W one.
The 125W charger is actually a GaN charger (20V/6.25A), while the 68W (20V/3.4A) is not. Both chargers support charging at the following modes: 15W (5V/3A), 27W (9V/3A), and 45W (15V/3A).
That being said, the Motorola Moto X40 will launch in China first. Outside of China, it’s expected to be called the Motorola Edge 40 Ultra, at least if Motorola ends up sticking to the name of its predecessor.
The Moto X40 will become the company’s new flagship. Plenty of information surfaced thus far, and the phone is expected to launch on December 15, in case you’re wondering.
Motorola’s new flagship will be fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. It will include a 6.67-inch fullHD+ display with a 144Hz refresh rate display. A 165Hz display was also mentioned in a single rumor, by the way.
We may see two different variants of the phone
The phone is actually said to arrive in two battery variants. The model with a 4,950mAh battery will support 68W charging, while the variant with a 4,450mAh battery will support 125W charging. It’s even possible that their displays will have different refresh rates, which would explain those rumors.
A 50-megapixel main camera is expected, along with a 50-megapixel telephoto unit. A 12-megapixel ultrawide camera was also mentioned.
We’re not sure when will the global model arrive, but it won’t launch before Q1 2023 for sure. Who knows, we may even have to wait longer than that.
