Mumbai: MMRDA Extends Last Train Timings on Lines 2A and 7 Due to Diwali

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has rolled out a revamped timetable for the last metro services on Lines 2A and 7, effective today, November 11, 2023.

Having said that, the last metro trains on both lines will now bid adieu from the terminal stations at the 23:00 hrs, a welcome extension from the previous 22:30 hrs cutoff.

This thoughtful decision comes after the persistent requests from passengers who were hoping for a little more flexibility in their metro schedules. Eknath Shinde, Chairman of MMRDA and Chief Minister of Maharashtra, shared the news through a video message, describing it as a Diwali gift to the hardworking commuters of the Mumbai Metro.

On weekdays, a robust 253 services operate between Gundavli and Andheri West on both routes, with trains chugging along from 05:55 hrs to the new extended time of 23:00 hrs. The metro intervals, ranging from 7.5 to 10.5 minutes, make it a lifeline for the daily 2.5 lakh riders.

With the extended metro timings, the frequency of trains will see a boost, reaching a total of 257. Post 22:00 hrs, MMRDA plans to throw in two extra metro trips each between Dahisar West to Gundavli and Dahanukarwadi to Andheri West, making it even more convenient for the late-night travelers.

Constructed at a colossal cost of approximately Rs 12,600 crores, Mumbai Metro rail Lines 2A (Dahisar E to DN Nagar – yellow line) and 7 (Andheri East to Dahisar E – red line) have become lifelines for the city’s commuters.

In another exciting update, the second Tunnel Boring Machine, T-60, has embarked on its journey on Metro Line 7A, connecting Bhayander to the International Airport. The initial drive is expected to wrap up within a month, with the final touches anticipated by June 2024. This ambitious tunneling project is set to conclude by the next year, marking a significant stride in Mumbai’s ever-evolving metro landscape.
