It hasn’t been long since the global release of the Galaxy Book 4 laptop series, and now, it looks like Samsung might be working on a new variant that could defy the established formula. A trademark application popped up at EUIPO yesterday and revealed an intriguing moniker that raises more questions than answers, i.e., Book 4 Edge.

This new Book 4 Edge trademark is associated with notebooks and tablet computers. So, what is it, exactly? There’s no way to know with certainty, but it’s interesting that the trademark application makes no mention of software features. So, whatever Book 4 Edge is, it’s unlikely a Windows OS software feature akin to the Edge Panel for One UI.

With so little information on hand and a vacuum that wants to be filled, it’s the perfect time to make a few fun speculations and look back at some old rumors and new events alike.

Could the Book 4 Edge be a new laptop powered by an ARM chip? Maybe even a Microsoft Surface competitor/alternative? Or is it something else?

The timing is what makes this interesting

Samsung’s trademark application for Book 4 Edge emerged yesterday, right around the time a rumor about ARM-powered Microsoft Surface devices was making the rounds. See, Microsoft is reportedly working on a couple of Surface devices that will be powered by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Elite chip (via WindowsCentral).

Microsoft’s lineup will supposedly consist of the Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 tablet PC. Both of these devices will be based on the Snapdragon X Elite ARM chip.

Although this Book 4 Edge trademark application from Samsung doesn’t reveal much at this point, the term “Edge” has been used by Samsung mobile devices before. Put two and two together, and it’s easy to speculate that the company could use this name again for its first ARM laptop.

But even if we allow ourselves to theorize, and even if it is true that Samsung is working on an ARM laptop, it’s anyone’s guess whether this alleged Book 4 Edge would be powered by the Snapdragon X Elite chip or an Exynos SoC. Last year, there was a rumor that Samsung might be developing an Exynos-powered ARM laptop, but nothing has come of it yet. The Book 4 Edge could be it, or it might not. Time will tell.

The existing Galaxy Book 4 series is powered exclusively by Intel CPUs based on the X86-64 architecture rather than ARM.
