N64-inspired Cavern of Dreams is coming to Switch February 29

Super Rare Originals has announced that they’re bringing Bynine Studio’s Cavern of Dreams to Switch on February 29, 2024.

Cavern of Dreams was released on PC late last year on October 19, 2023. I played the demo but didn’t have time to take on the full release. It’s based on that very distinct N64 flavor of collectathon platformer that immediately turned on itself and died from self-deprecation. To sell the illusion, it also cops a low poly art style with blurry textures and odd lighting choices similar to the N64’s best.

I loved the demo that I played. You’re put in the role of a diminutive dragon who sets out across a variety of worlds to rescue his siblings, who are still within eggs. Where I’ve been disappointed by some other games in the indie sphere’s revival of the 3D platformer, Cavern of Dreams feels like a close facsimile of what made the genre charming.

Alongside the announcement of the Switch version, Super Rare Originals released an accolades trailer, so you can see brief, out-of-context quotes by others in the gaming press.

Unfortunately, I don’t see any mention of whether or not it will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch Online N64 controller.

Cavern of Dreams is currently available on PC. It will be released on Switch February 29, 2024.
