Air India’s flight delay on the eve of Diwali leaves passengers stranded, shattering holiday plans and fueling frustration with subpar service.

Air India once again finds itself in the spotlight for its subpar service.

Several passengers who had made travel arrangements to reunite with their families ahead of Diwali were left stranded at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport due to the airline’s flight cancellations.

The incident unfolded at the IGI Airport, where the Kolkata-bound Air India flight from Delhi, flight AI 762, faced an unfortunate delay due to a technical snag with the aircraft. The flight was originally scheduled to depart at 9 pm IST but was pushed back to 11:55 pm. This unexpected delay resulted in a chaotic situation at the airport, leaving passengers stranded until the early hours of the morning.

Among the passengers caught in this disheartening ordeal was Dr. Souradipta Chandra, a senior doctor. Dr. Chandra shared his frustration, saying, “Our flight AI 762 from Delhi to Kolkata was scheduled to depart at 9 pm on November 7. We were informed around 4.30 pm that the flight had been delayed by an hour. We reached the airport at 7.30 pm, only to be informed the flight would depart at midnight. After waiting at the airport for 5 hours, we reached the boarding gate, where the staff kept assuring us that the boarding would begin in about 10 minutes. This went on for over 2 hours, and then chaos ensued. The staff’s inability to help us added to our distress, and passengers understandably lost their patience.”

Numerous passengers also reported that no refreshments were provided to them during the ordeal, with passengers from the economy class claiming that they were left without food or refreshments.

Air India responded to the flight cancellation and issued an apology to the passengers, saying, “We deeply regret that this delay has impacted your journey. However, your feedback is crucial to us, as it helps us identify areas where we can improve our services and ensure that they avoid recurrence in the future. This will certainly be looked into.”

This incident is not the first time Air India has faced flight cancellations on this sector due to technical issues, raising concerns about the airline’s reliability in the eyes of passengers.
