New Design Elements Confirmed for Upcoming SUV Coupe

Tata Motors has geared up its development processes for its next big offering for the Indian car market, the Curvv midsize SUV coupe. The Tata Curvv is already under rigorous trial runs in fully camouflaged versions, which have been seen several times. While the test mule has already confirmed the SUV-coupe design, the recent design patent for the Curvv filed by Tata Motors confirms more new design elements.

The new Tata Curvv design patent confirms that the upcoming SUV coupe will look more or less similar to the production-ready concept version, which was showcased by Tata Motors at the Auto Expo 2023. At the front, the new Tata Curvv will have a fascia similar to the new Nexon, which includes wedge-shaped daytime running LEDs on the sides and a slanted trapezoidal grille in the middle.

Like the Nexon, the new Tata Curvv will also have triangular housings for the all-LED headlamps on the corners of the front bumper, which also has a trapezoidal air dam in the middle. The side profile of the Curvv, which is the talking highlight of this upcoming SUV coupe, is also clearly visible in the design patent filed. The dramatically sloping roofline, door-mounted rearview mirrors and slightly flared wheel arches are also confirmed with this new design patent.

The design patent also reveals that the new Tata Curvv might have flush-type door handles and 17-inch alloy wheels, which were also present in the concept model showcased at the Auto Expo 2023. The sloping roofline might give the Tata Curvv a notchback-like design, something similar to the Skoda Octavia, in which the rear windscreen also opens up along with the boot lid. The design patent doesn’t reveal the rear profile of the Curvv, though we expect it to remain unchanged over the concept model, which had sleek LED tail lamps and a cleaner design for the boot lid.

While the spy shots and this new design patent only give an idea of the exterior design of the new Tata Curvv, the interior is yet to be seen. However, we expect the new Tata Curvv to share several components with the Nexon, such as the full-TFT 10.25-inch instrument console, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, new two-spoke multi-functional steering wheel and more.

The Tata Curvv will debut Tata Motors new 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which will offer bumper-up power and torque figures over the current-generation 1.2-litre engine in the Nexon. Besides this new engine, the Tata Curvv will share its 1.5-litre diesel engine and all-electric powertrains with the Nexon and Nexon.EV respectively.

The new Tata Curvv is a late but unique-looking entrant in the midsize SUV category, which is already over-crowded with popular offerings like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Honda Elevate and Citroen C3 Aircross.
