New Samsung patent hints at wider Galaxy Z Fold 6 cover screen

0 16

Earlier today, we reported that Samsung could bring a cheaper version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 later this year alongside the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6. But what improvements will Samsung bring with the regular Galaxy Z Fold 6? Will we see the wider cover screen that so many users have been demanding?

It could finally happen if some reports and this patent from Samsung are to be believed.

Samsung’s new patent could hint at Galaxy Z Fold 6 design

Samsung Electronics filed a new foldable phone-related patent (US 11,889,006 B2) two days ago with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office). This patent documents a foldable smartphone design technology that could make devices thinner than Samsung’s current-generation Galaxy Z Fold series phones. Moreover, it reveals a wider body, accommodating a wider cover screen and a wider inner foldable screen. The device showcased in the patent document is curvier than the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Based on this patent, the folks over at Pigtou created a render of a device in collaboration with XLeaks7 (David Kowalski), and you can see it in the image above.

As you can see in the images above, the patent application document from Samsung Electronics reveals a thinner, wider, and curvier foldable smartphone. It also reveals several components, including screws, springs, and gears used in the hinge. While most patents never make it to an actual end product, there is a good chance of this design actually being used in future Samsung smartphones. Many Galaxy Z Fold users and potential buyers have been demanding a phone with a wider cover screen, a thinner body, a bigger battery, and a built-in S Pen. And it looks like Samsung is working on several of those features, including the wider body and cover screen, as showcased in the new patent.

Some reports have claimed that Samsung will bring a design change with the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and it will likely feature a wider cover screen. Samsung has also trademarked the term Ironflex, which refers to a new flexible OLED screen that can be used in foldable phones, tablets, and monitors. Whether or not Samsung brings a built-in S Pen slot with the Galaxy Z Fold 6 remains to be seen. Samsung has been struggling to achieve its goal of selling 10 million foldable phones every year, so it could launch a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold (possibly named Galaxy Z Fold 6 FE) this year to achieve its sales target.
