New Tata Motors Safari SUV painted in Ochre Yellow [Video]

The new Tata Safari has been a big hit right from launch. Imposing looks, a solid build, a powerful diesel engine, spacious interiors and high safety levels are few of the selling points of the SUV. While Tata Motors sells about 2,000 copies of the Safari each month, the SUV has somehow not really dominated the modification circuit. What we have here though is something quite unique. The video lined up below will show you how a paint job can completely transform the looks of a car, giving it that X factor, and making it turn heads everywhere it goes.

As the video reveals, the Ochre Yellow paint job has been carried out by a Pune-based car customization outfit called Brotomotive. The Safari in question came in sporting a white paint scheme from the factory. The decision to paint it in Ochre Yellow was taken after much deliberation with the owner of the SUV, who wanted a colour that really made the SUV stand out. The result has been quite spectacular, with the Ochre Yellow paint scheme on the Safari giving the SUV a ‘Gold’ finish. And we all know how Indians love anything that has to do with gold.

Prior to the paint job, the Tata Safari was completely stripped down and save for the mechanicals, the entire body work of the SUV was removed. After sanding and priming, the SUV was painted in the Ochre Yellow colour. Some polishing and buffing later, the SUV’s final look that turns heads was achieved. The roof the SUV continues to sport the colour that it came with from the factory. Apart from the paint job and a minor denting job on the bootlid, no other changes were made to this Safari. Do note that a colour change to any vehicle in India has to be endorsed by the RTO.

The new Tata Safari sold in India sits on the OmegaARC platform – a derivative of the Land Rover LS550 platform. While Land Rovers sitting on the LS550 platform get an all wheel drive, Tata Motors has skipped that on both the OmegaArc SUVs – Safari and Harrier. Like the Harrier, the Tata Safari is powered by the 2 liter-4 cylinder turbocharged diesel engine from Fiat. This motor makes 170 Bhp-350 Nm, and is paired to a 6 speed manual gearbox as standard. Tata Motors also offers a 6 speed torque converter automatic gearbox option on specific trims.

There’s no petrol engine on offer. While there were rumours that Tata Motors was developing a 1.6 liter turbo petrol engine for deployment in the Harrier and Safari, those plans have been scrapped for now. Instead, both the Harrier and Safari will get all-electric powertrains. In fact, the Harrier Electric will be launched as early as next year. Expect to see the Harrier Electric at the 2023 Indian Auto Expo, followed by a launch later next year. The Safari Electric is expected to follow a year down the line.
