Next-Gen Honda Amaze Launching This Year: To Use City/Elevate Platform

0 20

Honda’s popular compact sedan, the Amaze is all set for a significant refresh later this year. The third generation of the Amaze, which replaces the 2018 model, is expected to hit showrooms by Diwali 2024. This refresh comes at a time when the Indian automotive landscape is overwhelmed with SUV’s of all sizes. The Amaze’s success will depend on its ability to stand out in a crowded market. The next-gen Amaze will square off against the all-new, 3rd generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire, which is also expected to make its debut by the end of this year.

The most significant update lies beneath the sheet metal. The third-gen Amaze will ditch its current platform for one shared with the City sedan and the Elevate SUV. However, the platform will undergo modifications, featuring a shorter wheelbase compared to the City and Elevate.

This keeps the Amaze within the sub-four-meter length which gives it some tax benefits in the Indian market. This shift means that Honda’s India portfolio is now based on a single platform.

While details regarding the final design are scarce, sources suggest the Amaze will retain its contemporary aesthetic, drawing inspiration from larger Honda sedans offered globally. Similar to the previous generation’s inspiration from the Accord, the new Amaze might follow suit.

Moving inside, the cabin is expected to receive a comprehensive makeover. We can expect a fresh layout, potentially incorporating a larger, free-standing touchscreen similar to the one found in the Elevate.

To control costs, Honda might share certain interior components with other models in the Indian market. Part sharing is not uncommon among car manufacturers and many other popular car brands do it as well.

Honda is likely to retain the 1.2-liter, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine from the current model. This engine delivers 90hp and 110Nm of torque, paired with either a five-speed manual or a CVT automatic gearbox. Honda will continue to offer the Amaze solely with a petrol engine option.

The existing Honda Amaze has enjoyed consistent success in the Indian market, proving its appeal among buyers seeking a compact and fuel-efficient sedan. However, the current trend favors SUVs and crossovers with buyers increasingly opting for the higher driving position and ruggedness these vehicles offer. It remains to be seen whether the revamped Amaze can carve out a strong niche for itself in this SUV-dominated landscape.

The launch of the new Amaze is expected in the second half of 2024. Upon arrival, it will face competition from established rivals like Maruti Dzire, the Hyundai Aura, and the Tata Tigor.

The third-generation Amaze promises a comprehensive upgrade, offering a fresh platform, a potentially bolder design, an enhanced interior, and continued focus on fuel efficiency. How it fares in the Indian market will depend on its ability to win over buyers seeking a stylish and practical sedan amidst the ever-growing SUV craze.
