Nintendo has a BOTW recap, leading up to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Relive the story ahead of the sequel

We are, as of this writing, a week away from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. That’s a pretty short amount of time, especially compared to the six years it’s been since Breath of the Wild. So if you need a refresher before the sequel arrives, there’s a quick recap video just for you.

Nintendo published a new video, titled “Relive the Story of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild” today, recapping the story of 2017’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. At 6 minutes and 38 seconds, it’s a short and sweet recap of just what happened leading up to, and during, Link’s adventure to save Hyrule from Calamity Ganon.

It does address some aspects head-on, like Zelda’s struggles to learn her sealing magic and Link’s quest to regain both power and his memories after 100 years in the blue goo. At just under 7 minutes, it hits the broad strokes.

Still, though, it would’ve been nice to at least name-check the Champions. They did die defending Hyrule, after all! Jokes aside, this is probably solid enough for anyone who played the first game but needs a quick refresh ahead of next week, and maybe doesn’t want to watch an hour-long recap somewhere else.

The kingdom draws near

The release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is seven short days away, which is wild to think about. The sequel to Breath of the Wild has been publicly in development for years, yet Nintendo’s kept a careful lid and managed to not show a ton ahead of launch. Well, outside of those Nuts & Bolts-like hand powers. (That said, there are leaks out there, so be careful if you’re looking to stay unspoiled.)

With not much longer to go, I’m curious to see what Nintendo does with this direct sequel, and how these versions of Link and Zelda will evolve to meet their new challenges. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom arrives on Nintendo Switch on May 12.
