Nothing really wants to make ChatGPT the default voice assistant

Nothing OS is starting to become a pretty unique Android experience. The first version was basically a mirror image of Android 11, but Nothing OS 2 further characterizes the company’s vision for an Android platform. Carl Pei just showed off how easy it is to use ChatGPT using Nothing OS 2. This could make it easier for ChatGPT to replace the Google Assistant on Nothing phones.

In case you haven’t heard, ChatGPT now has a convenient Quick Settings tile. At the time of writing this article, you need to have the latest beta version of ChatGPT installed. Once you do that, you will have the option to assign the Quick Settings tile. When you do that, you simply have to tap on the tile to bring up the ChatGPT voice assistant.

The ChatGPT voice assistant will display over any app that you have on your screen. So, you will not have to navigate to the ChatGPT app to use it. You speak into it and get a verbal response. Also, the ChatGPT app will keep a record of that conversation, so you can continue it later on in the app.

In the new video posted to Carl Pei’s X account, we see just how quick it is to access ChatGPT in Nothing OS. One thing to note about Nothing OS is that you’re able to attach Quick Settings to your home screen via a widget. This makes it a lot easier to access certain settings without having to bring down your notification shade.

Well, adding the ChatGPT Quick Settings widget to your home screen seems like a logical next step. We see a short video showcasing the functionality. This is mostly a showcase of Nothing OS; the company is not announcing some new partnership with OpenAI or close integration of the ChatGPT into Nothing OS. So, this is nothing new. However, if you’ve been looking for more ways to get ChatGPT in your life, and you have a Nothing phone (1) or Nothing Phone (2), then this is an option for you.
