Nothing takes a dig at Tecno, says POVA 5 series ‘copied our homework’

Nothing mocks Tecno in new tweet

Tecno put out a teaser video yesterday that showcased the LED lighting system of the POVA 5 Pro. It’s the first teaser that shows how the LED lights would look and function when receiving a call. On the POVA 5 Pro, the LED lights are three strips meeting at one point. There’s also a tiny one visible at the centre of the rear panel, and it’s part of what looks like an oval design.

While it isn’t an exact copy of the Nothing Phone (2), the concept is similar and one that was unique to the former. Nothing wasn’t shy either in calling out Tecno for coming out with something similar. The Carl Pei-owned startup retweeted Tecno’s teaser saying, “If you want to copy our homework, just ask next time?”

Nothing has one more brand to worry about, and that’s Infinix. This one has a closer resemblance to the Phone (2). The Infinix GT 10 Pro has an adaptive LED interface with a rear design that’s very close to the Phone (2). The LEDs will light up when a game is launched on the phone, for notifications, and for charging status updates as well.

Infinix calls this the ‘Cyber Mecha Design’ but the arc design for the LED lights is almost the same as the Phone (2). Even the colour options are similar with the phone coming in white and black, which looks quite like the dark grey Phone (2). Carl had also responded to a tweet about the Infinix phone saying, “Time to get the lawyers ready.” We don’t know if he was serious or not but it’s definitely bothering the Nothing team. And it looks like we’ll be seeing more copycats in the near future.
