nubia Z60 Ultra gets taken apart on video

0 30

The nubia Z60 Ultra from ZTE is now on pre-order in America and Europe with shipping set to start on December 29. It is available in Black and Silver, along with a special edition inspired by Van Gogh’s The Starry Night. This is exactly the version that the team over at WekiHome took apart to see what makes this camera-obsessed flagship tick.

What’s with the oddly shaped camera islands and why do they stick out so much (and to various heights)? To find out, the first thing to do is to remove the glass panel (this one in particular is covered in the famous swirls).

Everything is packed tightly in the upper third of the phone – the cameras and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 based motherboard. Below that is the large 6,000mAh battery. As you can see, there’s no wireless charging coil, but the engineers put a lot of effort into giving the heat a path to the outside.

The nubia Z60 Ultra camera setup is interesting for many reasons, including that all three modules have OIS – even the 100° ultra wide one. That might be the reason that the cameras are spread out, the magnets and coils of each OIS module might interfere with the ones in a neighboring module if they are too close.

Even the backs of the camera modules are covered in copper foil to conduct heat away – modern sensors do generate quite a bit of heat. The vapor chamber that on the Z60 Ultra is smaller than that of the Z50 Ultra, betting on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s efficiency to keep the system cool.
