The Nothing Phone (2a) unboxing video is now available via the company’s YouTube channel and social media. Nothing actually brought in a fan to unbox the device in this 12-minute video, a kid named Maximilian.

The video is embedded below the article, in case you’d like to check it out. In it, not only will you be able to take a closer look at the device itself, but you’ll also hear more about the thinking behind its design. What’s interesting is that this design is based on what the original Nothing Phone was supposed to look like.

Nothing changed up the camera positioning on the back and changed up the design a bit. The cameras are not centered and horizontally aligned, while there’s a circle around them. There are also three Glyph lights that surround it, and they’re all different in terms of size and shape.

Nothing used plastic this time around

That back plastic on the device is flat for the most part, but it curves towards the edges, on all sides. That should make the phone rather comfortable to hold, as the plastic curves into the flat frame. Yes, Nothing used plastic this time around, instead of glass. The company says that it made them do the design a bit differently. This phone is also supposed to be cheaper than the Nothing Phone (2), so that was also considered, probably.

The frame is made out of metal or plastic, we’re not sure, but it’s flat all around. The power/lock key sits on the right-hand side, while the volume up and down buttons are located on the left. Those two buttons are also separated, by the way.

The company went through hundreds, if not thousands of designs

Nothing says that they went through hundreds, if not thousands of different designs before they settled on this one. They even show some drawings of different designs in this video.

The company also demoed some ringtones in the video. They’re still similar in style, but they do differ from what we’ve seen in the past, a little bit. It’s also confirmed that the Glyphs are still white only, but there are various sequences you can choose from.

As a reminder, the Nothing Phone (2) will become officially official on March 5.
