Ola Electric scooters have managed to make the news for various reasons. We have encountered several incidents in the past where scooter owners faced serious issues. There have also been cases where the scooters have caught fire. A new video has now surfaced online, showing a person experiencing an issue while test riding the Ola S1 Air scooter. Smoke started coming out of the scooter, and within minutes, it caught fire. The customer recorded a video of the accident and posted it online.

The video was shared by Athul Vijayan on his Instagram page. It appears that Athul was interested in the Ola electric scooter and wanted to assess its performance and comfort by taking a test ride. The accident happened somewhere in Kerala. The rider took the scooter for a quick spin, and as seen in the video, he was pushing the scooter to see how it performs.

The rider was easily reaching speeds of over 70 kmph on the roads of Kerala. The Ola scooter, being an EV, accelerates pretty fast. After riding the scooter for some distance, the rider probably noticed smoke coming from under the seat. He stopped the scooter on the side of the road and found that the amount of smoke coming out had increased almost immediately. Within minutes, the scooter caught fire. The rider or some locals called the fire brigade, and by the time they arrived at the spot, the scooter had been burning for quite some time.

The fire brigade extinguished the fire. The exact reason behind this fire is not clear at the moment. Only the frame of the scooter was left after the fire.

This is not the first instance of an Ola scooter fire. Here are some of our past articles about Ola fires:

  • Ola scooter catches fire while charging
  • Ola S1 Pro catches fire, burns down furniture store
  • Ola S1 Pro catches fire in Bhopal

The comment section of this video is actually hilarious. Some users initially thought that the scooter belonged to the rider. They wrote, “This is probably the first time an Ola customer has made a funny video about his scooter catching fire.” The rider later clarified under the video in a comment that he was taking a test drive. One user asked if he received a callback from Ola customer service asking about the test drive experience. While the rider has posted a funny video about the incident, it should be noted that this is not funny by any means. He was lucky enough to have noticed the smoke on time. The rider did the right thing by parking the scooter on the roadside away from other vehicles. We are not sure whether Ola has come forward with any official statement regarding this incident yet.

Not The First Time

This is not the first time Ola scooters have caught fire in India. A few weeks ago, a video surfaced online showing an Ola S1 Pro scooter in Chhattisgarh that was plugged into a charger catching fire at midnight. The fire was so intense that it burnt down a 2-storey building and two other scooters. The occupants of the house escaped the fire with injuries. Last year in December, we came across an incident where an Ola S1 Pro electric scooter caught fire and destroyed a furniture shop in Kerala’s Malappuram. Similarly, in October, an Ola electric scooter caught fire in a parking lot in Pune.
