Old-gen Mahindra Thar recovers Toyota Fortuner & Scorpio N while off-roading

Mahindra Thar is one of the most popular off-road SUV and it is now very commonly seen SUV in almost every off-road group. Along with Thar, Toyota Fortuner is also a commonly seen SUV in such groups. Toyota Fortuner is a very capable SUV and we have several off-road videos of the same as well. Off-roading is becoming a lot mre common among SUV owners and getting stuck while off-roading is part of the adventure. Here we have a video where a Toyota Fortuner and a Mahindra Scorpio N SUV gets stuck on a river bed while off-roading.

The video has been uploaded by SQV On their YouTube channel. In this video vlogger and his friends were all going out for off-roading. They all start moving towards their off-roading spot in convoy. They had over 10 SUVs in the group. The group consisted on Thar (old and new generation), Isuzu V-Cross, Toyota Foruner and a Mahindra Scorpio N 4×4. They all reach the spot which is a river bed. The area is full of sand and there are several sections where the sand is too loose and slushy. The Thar owners splash through the water. Most of the SUVs are equipped with basic off-roading kit except some.

This video is a good example that shows how important tyres are while off-roading. They all cross the first phase and the group drives towards the next phase. This section had a lot more water and sand. The convoy starts moving through the shallow section of the river. They were all folowing a particular track and were maintaining momentum to ensure that they don’t get stuck. However one of the Toyota Fortuner SUVs in the group got stuck in the stretch. The sand was so loose that the whole SUV sunk into the sand within seconds. The SUV was running on HT tyres which were not helping in this case.

While the Fortuner was stuck, Mahindra Scorpio N driver was also driving next to the SUV and in few minutes, the Scorpio N also got stuck. Both SUVs were stuck in similar manner and the reason why they got stuck was also same. Scorpio N was also running on HT tyres. Highway Terrain tyres are suitable for on-road driving conditions. They minimise the road noise and offer a comfortable ride. They are not the best when it comes to off-roading. If you are planning to take your vehicle off-road, it should at least have AT tyres. Drivers on both the SUVs tried self recovery but it was on no use.

One of the Mahindra Thar (old generation) in the convoy had recovery equipment like electric winch. They connected the winch to te Fortuner and pulled the SUV out. Similarly, the Scorpio N was also pulled out without any issue. All the other SUVs in the group were running on off-road spec tyres and that is the reason none of them got stuck. The terrain on which they were driving was also tricky which was another reason. The group was prepared and that is what helped them quickly recover both the SUVs.
