Old vs new Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

This video of the old and new Grand Vitara sitting side by side has been shared on Instagram by Car Crazy India on their official page. It starts off with the older Grand Vitara parked in the parking lot. It can be noted that this car has been kept in immaculate condition. Also, we can note that it appears to be wrapped in a Gunmetal grey color and has also been given new alloy wheels.

The overall appearance of this SUV is extremely unique and looks very beautiful. And right next to this older generation model was a brand-new Grand Vitara. This SUV needs no introduction as it is currently one of the most popular mid-size SUVs in the country. It gets a lot more modern and rounded-off design and comes equipped with a much more fuel-efficient hybrid engine.

2007 Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara: Details

Back in 2007, Maruti Suzuki India Limited launched the first generation of Grand Vitara in India. At the time, the model was launched as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) and it was priced at Rs 16.57 lakh for the manual transmission variant and Rs 17.83 lakh for the automatic transmission variant. Initially, it came with a 2.0-litre petrol engine which produced a maximum power of 120 bhp and 170 Nm of torque.

However, in 2009, the already slow-selling Grand Vitara was given a revamp. With the new update, the SUV’s old 2.0-litre engine was replaced with a more powerful 2.4-litre petrol engine which gave it a power bump of 43 bhp. This engine made a total power of 163.5 bhp and 225 Nm of torque. It also came equipped with a full-time 4WD system.

Finally, after years of waiting, the Indo-Japanese automaker, back in September of 2022, launched the spiritual successor of the 2009 Grand Vitara. This time around it made its debut as a compact SUV which was launched to challenge the segment champions Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

The old Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara came with a pretty basic interior. However, with the new model, the company has loaded it with a number of features. The list of features offered in the new Grand Vitara includes a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster (available in strong-hybrid only), ventilated front seats, panoramic sunroof, HUD display, 360-degree camera, wireless charger, ambient lighting, connected car tech, Arkamys sound system, and more.

As for the powertrain side of things, the new Grand Vitara comes equipped with two powertrain options. The first is a mild hybrid and the other is a strong hybrid. The all-wheel-drive option is reserved for the mild hybrid-manual transmission variants while the rest of the variants are front-wheel-driven. 5-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter automatics are the transmissions available with this powertrain.

The mild hybrid powertrain consists of a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder K15C petrol engine (102 Bhp-137 Nm) and a SHVS (Suzuki Hybrid Vehicle System) mild hybrid unit that assists the petrol engine during hard acceleration. The mild hybrid also offers brake energy regeneration and an idle-stop system.

Meanwhile, the strong hybrid powertrain consists of a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine (91 Bhp-122 Nm) and an electric motor that makes 78 Bhp-141 Nm. Combined output stands at 114 Bhp. The strong hybrid powertrain also offers an all-electric mode, which means the Grand Vitara can be driven on battery power for about 25 kilometers. It gets a CVT automatic transmission and offers mind-blowing mileage of 28 kmpl.
