Mahindra just took the wraps off the 2022 Scorpio. The new SUV generation is called Scorpio N. Anand Mahindra shared the teaser of the new Scorpio N. To this, a Twitter user said that “Rohit Shetty be like: Now it’s not going to be fun”. To this, Anand Mahindra replied that Rohit Shetty would need a nuclear bomb to destroy the new Scorpio N.

The context of this conversation is that Rohit Shetty is a famous Bollywood director who is known to make action films with a lot of cars and stunts related to them. His films like Suryavanshi, Singham and Simmba’s hero car was Scorpio which was related in a lot of stunts. Rohit Shetty is known for extraordinary and often unbelievable stunts featuring vehicles in his movies.
It is possible that Anand Mahindra is alluding to a potentially high safety rating for the 2022 Mahindra Scorpio N in this tweet. There is a high chance of this, as Mahindra’s main local competitor, Tata Motors, already plays up its high GlobalNCAP safety ratings.

2022 Mahindra Scorpio N
Mahindra is using a very strong advertisement that says “The Big Daddy of SUVs is here”. The design of the Scorpio N looks very butch and it has a very strong road presence. It still retains some of the boxy and SUV-ish design elements of the current Scorpio which is a good thing.
Up-front there is a flat bonnet, new six-slat grille and twins-peak logo. The headlamps are all-new and get a projector setup. In the bumper, there are C-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamps with LED fog lamps.
It is the side profile where we can see most of the Scorpio elements with pronounced wheel arches and kink in the chrome beltline which does look a bit like the Alturas G4. There are new 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails and black plastic cladding. At the rear, there is a side-mounted tailgate. The rear tail lamps are LED units and look a bit Volvo-like.
Platform and dimensions
The Scorpio N is still based on the ladder-frame chassis but it is expected that Mahindra would rework it so that it handles better and the stability is also improved. A similar chassis can be used for the upcoming 5-door Thar also. The dimensions of the Scorpio N will be larger than the current Scorpio. This means that there will be more interior and cabin space for the occupants. So, expect it to have more legroom and shoulder room.
Engine and gearbox
Mahindra will offer the Scorpio N with a petrol and a diesel engine. Both the engines will be taken from the Thar and XUV700. The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre turbocharged unit that belongs to the mStallion range of engines. Then there is the 2.2-litre diesel engine that belongs to the mHawk range of engines. The new engines are known to be one of the best in the segments when it comes to refinement and power output.
The petrol engine could get the same tune as the XUV700. So, it could be 200 PS or maybe less. The diesel engine would be offered in two states of tune. The lower variants would get Thar’s tune. So, 130 PS and 300 Nm whereas the higher variants would come with XUV700’s MX variant’s tune. So, 155 PS and 360 Nm.
Both the engines will be offered with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Mahindra would also offer a 4×4 system with the Scorpio N.
