Outer Banks actor Austin North is speaking out after he was arrested on gross misdemeanor battery after allegedly attacking someone during a trip to the emergency room in Las Vegas earlier this week.

In a statement posted to his Instagram story on Thursday, North said he was “deeply upset by the events that took place in Las Vegas” and said he was “having a severe anxiety attack.”

North further relayed, “My friend drove me to the hospital because I thought I was having a heart attack. Several tests were taken, including blood, which came back negative for any drugs or alcohol in my system.”

The actor says he has “very little memory of the events that day” but has the “utmost respect for healthcare workers and hospital staff.”

“I have battled anxiety on and off for years and this was the most extreme panic attack I’ve ever had,” he added. “Going forward, I hope to shed light on this debilitating disorder and send hope to those who have also struggled.”

According to a police report obtained by TMZ, North was taken into custody after allegedly assaulting nurses and a phlebotomist at the University Medical Center hospital emergency room on Tuesday in Las Vegas. North allegedly punched a nurse in the head and shoved another in the face and pushed the phlebotomist, who used a tray to hit North in self defense, into a table, according to TMZ. He also allegedly attacked someone else at the medical center, TMZ reports. North was ultimately handcuffed to a gurney and booked for gross misdemeanor battery and released on bail, TMZ reports.

North had been in Vegas for the Super Bowl and shared some of his activities in town on his Instagram, writing in part “So grateful for the amazing Super Bowl experience.”

North portrays Topper in Outer Banks, one of the “Kooks” from the rich side of the Outer Banks. He is also the ex of Madelyn Cline’s Sarah Cameron.
