Pixel Watch 2 won’t look much different than its predecessor

According to some new information, the Pixel Watch 2 won’t look much different than its predecessor. This info is based on a recent app teardown, let’s take things one step at a time.

The beta version of the Google Search app was released this week, version 14.24. That app actually includes new assets which are related to Google’s second-gen Pixel smartwatch.

The Pixel Watch 2 is not expected to look much different than its predecessor

The watch is being developed under the code name ‘Eos’. You may wonder why is that codename different than the one reported earlier this year (‘Aurora’). Well, in mythology, both Eos (Greek) and Aurora (Roman) are goddesses of the dawn.

There could be some differences here, perhaps we’re looking at variants with and without cellular connectivity. That would make all the sense in the world based on what we’ve seen before.

In any case, 9to5Google also discovered that Google is using the same text and animations for the Pixel Watch 2, as it used for the first-gen model. Considering that the same design is used in these cartoonish animations (shown below), it’s safe to assume that the second-gen model won’t look much different.

Well, unless, of course, Google didn’t update the assets just yet, in which case this assumption doesn’t make much sense. Still, the chances that Google will change the design entirely are very low.

Google has a number of other things to fix, the design was not the issue

The Pixel Watch was actually hailed for its design, though it had other shortcomings. Google will likely do its best to fix those shortcomings, and not mess around with the design all that much.

The Pixel Watch 2 is expected to arrive alongside the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro later this year. Those devices are expected to become official in October. The second-gen watch is expected to offer a major battery life boost, and actually switch to a Snapdragon SoC.
