Mahindra has hit a significant milestone in production with the completion of the 1,00,000th unit of the Scorpio-N. Launched in June 2022, the Scorpio-N is now available in six variants – Z2, Z4, Z6, Z8, Z8L, and Z8L 6-seater, priced between Rs 13.60 lakh and Rs 21.97 lakh (ex-showroom).

The SUV offers two engine options – a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine generating 200 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 380 Nm @ 1,750-3,000 rpm, and a 2.2-litre diesel producing 172 BHP @ 3,500 rpm and 400 Nm @ 1,750-2,750 rpm. Both engines are paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Scorpio-N boasts all-wheel drive with Mahindra’s 4xplor terrain management system, featuring low range and four terrain modes: Normal, Grass/Gravel/Snow, Mud/Rut, and Sand. 90 % of sales come from the diesel engined variants of the Scorpio-N despite the petrol motor offering better refinement and punch. The overwhelming demand for diesel variants mainly has to do with the better fuel economy.

In January 2024, Mahindra marked a 31% growth in SUV sales, reaching 43,068 units. However, total exports for the same month declined to 1,746 units from 3,009 units in January of the previous year.

Mahindra recently made some changes in the Scorpio N, updates include the exclusion of a cooled glove box in Scorpio N Z4 and Z6 trims, with Z6 now sporting a smaller 4.2-inch monochrome MID. Additionally, the prices for Z4 and Z6 have seen an increase of around Rs 34,000 and Rs 31,000, respectively. The price range of the Scorpio-N ranges from Rs 13.26 lakh to Rs 24.54 lakh after the price hike.

The Scorpio-N boasts a distinctive front design with a chrome grille and twin-pod LED headlamps. The SUV’s rear features vertically stacked tail lamp clusters and a side-hinged tailgate.

Highlighting its features, the Scorpio-N includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay, Alexa-enabled What3words, a 12-speaker Sony audio system, 6-way power-adjustable driver seat, electric sunroof, rear-view camera, auto start/stop, cruise control, and wireless charging. Inside, the Scorpio-N exhibits a dual-tone leatherette interior. All variants feature a 7-seat configuration, while the top-spec Z8 L variant offers an optional 6-seat layout with captain seats in the second row.

Ensuring safety, the Scorpio-N is equipped with 6 airbags, ESP, traction control, hill hold control, hill descent control, TPMS, and driver drowsiness detection. In the Indian market, the Scorpio N competes with Tata Safari, Mahindra Scorpio Classic and Mahindra XUV 700. Mahindra’s Scorpio-N, available in six variants, has achieved a notable production milestone, offering powerful engine options, advanced features, and a robust design, making it a compelling choice in the SUV market.
