Priyanka Chopra welcomed her first daughter, Malti Marie Jonas Chopra, with her husband Nick Jonas, via surrogacy. Since then, there have been several speculations and fans’ theories about why she opted for surrogacy.

Meanwhile, in a recent interview with Vogue, Priyanka got candid about using a surrogate to welcome daughter Malti Marie with husband Nick Jonas last year, explaining how her health prevented her from carrying her child herself. In the February cover story of British Vogue, Priyanka revealed, “I had medical complications. This was a necessary step, and I’m so grateful I was in a position where I could do this.”

The actress continues, “Our surrogate was so generous, kind, lovely and funny, and she took care of this precious gift for us for six months.” Chopra also addressed those who criticized her decision to use a surrogate saying, “You don’t know me.” Bollywood queen further shared, “You don’t know what I’ve been through. And just because I don’t want to make my medical history, or my daughter’s, the public doesn’t give you the right to make up whatever the reasons were.”

Priyanka went on the explain that Malti, who just celebrated her first birthday on January 15, had to be delivered a full trimester before her due date. The Baywatch actress then noted, “I was in the OR when she came out. She was so small, smaller than my hand. I saw what the intensive-care nurses do.” She added, “They do God’s work. Nick and I were both standing there as they intubated her.”

Quantico star further added, “I don’t know how they even found what they needed in her tiny body to intubate her.” While Priyanka and Nick kept their daughter out of the public eye by covering her face in photos, they have given several glimpses of major milestones from her first year.
