Product Head shows SUV’s stability by changing lanes at 180 Kph [Video]

Mahindra has just launched the all-new Scorpio N in India. The body-on-ladder SUV is already receiving massive interest from customers across the country. During the product launch, Mahindra’s head of global product development Mr. R. Velusamy, shed more light about how the all-new Scorpio N has been engineered to match the performance of D-Segment luxury SUVs such as the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour. Here is Mr. Velusamy showing that the all-new Mahindra Scorpio N is capable of.

The video, shared by MotorVikatan, shows Mr. Velusamy at the wheel of a red coloured all-new Mahindra Scorpio N. MotorVikatan’s personnel are also in the SUV. The location is Mahindra’s test track, at the automaker’s Research and Development facility near Chennai. Mr. Velusamy begins by talking about his career, which began in Mahindra during 1996.

Back then, Mr. Velusamy joined as an engineer in the powertrain department, which was entrusted with the task of developing a new engine for the first-gen Scorpio. Mr. Velusamy says that the Scorpio – first launched in 2002 – is no less than god for Mahindra as the SUV single-handedly transformed the automaker’s fortunes, and has been a big seller for 20 years.

He then proceeds to driving the all-new Mahindra Scorpio N on the test track, taking the SUV to speeds of 180 Kph. At these speeds, Mr. Veluswamy shows the stability of the Scorpio N. To reinforce this point, he even performs lane change maneuvers at 180 Kph, showing how stable the Scorpio N is even at such high speeds. Such a maneuver would have been unthinkable in the first-gen Scorpio, which was quite a skittish handler. Even the previous generation Scorpio isn’t really confident at speeds of over 100 Kph. All this has changed in the all-new Scorpio N, which comfortably holds its line even at really high speeds, and manages to gracefully change lanes at 180 Kph.

Mr. Velusamy then proceeds to the skid pad, where he takes very sharp turns in the Scorpio N. The SUV acquits itself very well at speed of 80 to 100 Kph, impressing its occupants. The video then goes on to show how supple the all-new Scorpio N’s suspension is, and how it absorbs a series of ruts. To showcase the suspension tune, Mr. Velusamy puts the SUV through a series of surfaces, from concrete roads, uneven cobblestones to expansion joints.

The Scorpio N  manages to remain quite composed across all surfaces, keeping the occupants supremely comfortable. All in all, the new Mahindra Scorpio N has been engineered to offer a very plush ride even across bumpy roads. This is something that a lot of buyers would be quite excited about as the Scorpio traditionally has never been a very comfortable SUV on bad roads.
