Pune Metro: Govt Greenlights Vanaz To Chandni Chowk & Ramwadi To Wagholi Extensions

The government of Maharashtra has approved the extension of the Pune Metro’s Vanaz to Ramwadi stretch at both ends.

The first extends from Vanaz to Chandni Chowk, while the second is from Ramwadi to Wagholi. Pune Metro has created a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for these extensions, which was originally submitted to the Pune Municipal Corporation for approval and later transferred to the state government for further approval.

The decision to approve the extension of the Pune Metro Rail was made by the state government during a State Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, reported Pune Times Mirror.

Informing about the same, the Pune Metro Rail wrote, “The Vanaz to Chandni Chowk extension spans 1.12 KM, entirely elevated, and has two stations: Chandni Chowk Station and Kothrud Bus Depot Station.”

“The Ramwadi to Wagholi stretch, all elevated and spanning 11.36 km, will accommodate 11 stations: Viman Nagar Station, Kharadi Bypass Station, Somnath Nagar Station, Ubale Nagar Station, Tulaja Bhavani Station, Wagheshwar Temple Station, Upper Kharadi Road Station, Wagholi Station, Bakori Phata Station, Siddharth Nagar Station, and Vithalwadi Station,” they added.

These extensions cover a total of 12.75 km together, all elevated, and consist of 13 stations. The estimated cost for this section is approximately Rs 3,756.58 crore. Funding for the initiative will be provided by the central and state govts, as well as bilateral and multilateral institutions. As per the media outlet, the central government has allocated a total funding of Rs 3,226.49 crore for the project, while the state government has approved Rs 259.65 crore for land acquisition for the projects.

In addition to that, funds have been allocated for interest costs, resettlement, land acquisition, and rehabilitation.

On this occasion, Managing Director of Maharashtra Metro Shravan Hardikar said that this is a natural extension for the Vanaz to Ramwadi stretch, which has been permitted by the Maharashtra Government. This approval will accelerate the implementation of these lines, providing momentous benefits to the residents along Nagar Road.

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar believes that these metro routes will provide fast and efficient public transportation, linking suburban residents to the city, reported Times Now.

Furthermore, the construction of these metro routes is expected to improve accessibility for financial institutions, schools, colleges, and IT companies located along the Ramwadi to Wagholi stretch, thereby reducing traffic congestion on the jam-packed Nagar Road. In the same way, the Vanaz to Chandni Chowk extension would benefit the residents and offices in the area.
