0 14

The construction work of developing Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar metro line 3 in collaboration with the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) is currently in the process by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

Now, reports suggest that there are plans to further extend this route from Shivajinagar to Loni Kalbhor on a PPPbasis. The feasibility report for this project in this regard has already been submitted to the development authority.

As per the PUMTA committee, sub-routes from Shivajinagar to Loni Kalbhor, Race Course to Swargate, and Hadapsar (Gadital) to Saswad Road (Mantarwadi Phata) will all be executed as Pune Metro Line-4 and Line-5 projects, according to the Times Of India.

During a conversation with Pune Pulse, PMRDA Chief Engineer Rinaj Pathan said, “The Pune Metro line is going to be stretched till Loni Kalbhor. However, the government is yet to decide whether the extension should be done by either Maha Metro or PMRDA.”

“We have got the feasibility report for the extension through our appointed consultant on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis. Extensions of Shivajinagar to Loni Kalbhor, along with Pulgate to Swargate, are feasible on a PPP basis. The proposal for the same will soon be sent to the state government, after which the authority to execute the extension will be decided,” he added.

Furthermore, during the Pune Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority meeting, the Divisional Commissioner instructed that a single agency should work on the metro line extension, either PMRDA or Maha Metro. He also recommended the PMRDA will appoint a consultant to assess the feasibility of completing this project through a PPP. Consequently, the PMRDA had taken steps to hire a consultant to examine the economic feasibility of the said route, reported Pune Pulse.

The Pune Metro project is currently under construction to connect Hinjewadi to Shivajinagar in collaboration with Tata Group. A comprehensive project development plan was prepared to extend this route. As per the proposed plan, it is said that this route will run from Shivajinagar to Loni Kalbhor. In addition to that, plans to connect and establish a metro line from Hadapsar to Saswad Road and from Race Course to Swargate are also proposed.

The overall length of the Pune metro lines will be 23 kilometres. A consulting firm has been appointed by PMRDA to look into the feasibility of these routes. This organisation has now submitted the feasibility report to the PMRDA. It has been stated that the metro project on this route can be implemented on a PPP basis.
