0 34

Qualcomm has arrived in Barcelona for the Mobile World Congress with a slew of announcements, including the new Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF System. This is their seventh-generation 5G modem. Hard to believe we’ve been using 5G for that long, but the first globally available 5G phones launched in 2019!

The new Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF System is the most advanced 5G modem-to-antenna platform in the world, according to Qualcomm. It integrates 5G-Advanced capabilities and is the first modem that has fully integrated NB-NTN satellite communications support for connectivity to non-terrestrial networks. Qualcomm has included a dedicated tensor accelerator that powers AI optimization, which will improve throughput, quality of service, coverage, latency, spectrum efficiency, power efficiency, and mmWave beam management.

The company also notes that the Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF System is currently sampling and is expected to launch in the second half of 2024.

Qualcomm brings AI to WiFi, Bluetooth, and more with FastConnect 7900

That’s not all; Qualcomm is also announcing the FastConnect 7900 mobile connectivity system. Which will use AI-optimized performance and integrate WiFi 7, Bluetooth, and Ultra-Wideband technologies in a single chip.

FastConnect 7900 will adapt to specific use cases and environments thanks to AI. This means that your next smartphone that uses FastConnect 7900 should have much better data performance, no matter the setting.

Qualcomm says that FastConnect 7900 is expected to launch commercially in the second half of 2024. It’s likely that it will be included in the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset.

Qualcomm’s AI Hub has over 75 pre-optimized AI models for deployment

It wouldn’t be an announcement at a tech trade show without some form of AI. And Qualcomm is with that as well. The company announced that its AI Hub features over 75 pre-optimized AI models for seamless deployment on devices powered by Snapdragon and Qualcomm platforms.

Developers are going to be able to seamlessly integrate these models into their applications, which will help reduce the time-to-market while utilizing the benefits of on-device AI implementations, which include immediacy, reliability, personalization, privacy, and cost savings.

Qualcomm was that these models are available on Qualcomm AI Hub, Hugging Face, and Github.
