Reminder: One UI 6.1 update is coming to select devices this month

0 14

The Galaxy S23 series came out last year running version 5.1 of One UI out of the box. Samsung didn’t waste time in bringing it to other devices: One UI 5.1 was released for devices like the Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy Z Fold 4 before the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra hit retail shelves.

Before One UI 5.1, Samsung traditionally released One UI updates for older devices after the flagship they debuted with became available for purchase, and with One UI 6.1, the company has returned to that tradition.

The Galaxy S24 went on sale around the globe on January 31, and with February already in our rear-view mirror and a few days into March, the S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra are the only devices that are running One UI 6.1.

How much longer will those with Galaxy smartphones and tablets eligible for One UI 6.1 have to wait? Well, in case you missed it, the update will start rolling out to select devices sometime this month, as revealed by Samsung in a press release in February.

One UI 6.1 for pre-2024 smartphones is almost here

Samsung didn’t announce a concrete release date, which is par for the course for press releases about new One UI updates, and initially, the company simply said that One UI 6.1 would come to older devices sometime in the first half of 2024, which was a pretty vague timeline.

That may have been an attempt from Samsung to lower our expectations so it can impress us later when it gets the job done ahead of time, or it simply needed more time to make sure One UI 6.1’s AI features perform well on all supported devices.

Either way, the update is ready for a rollout this month, at least for the flagship phones and tablets Samsung launched in 2023 (S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, S23 FE, Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9). It’s unknown when other devices will get it, though we can assume that the waiting period will be relatively shorter for them once the 2023 flagships have made the jump, especially since most of them will not be getting any of the AI features.
