Renault has officially unveiled its new Kardian Sport Utility Vehicle following a few teasers.
It is anticipated that Brazil will be first market where the Kardian will be introduced. The SUV appears to be positioned above the Kiger that is available in the Indian market. Initially, Renault plans to construct the Kardian in Brazil, followed by Morocco.
The Kardian has a length of 4.12 metres and is built on the innovative Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform. Renault recently claimed that up to eight vehicles based on this platform will be offered internationally, with a focus on emerging countries.

The Kardian has a distinctive design with split headlights, robust front and back bumpers, and a huge Renault characteristic double-layer grille. The Kardian has just the right amount of imitation aluminium accents to give it a tough SUV appearance. It gains a bodyshell more akin to a coupe and more ground clearance thanks to the thick cladding on the running boards and wheel arches.
The taillamps have a C-shaped design at the back, similar to the Kiger. The higher-end models have beautiful alloy wheels, roof rails, a shark-fin antenna, and chrome accents.
Its interior has an elegant dashboard with a drive mode selector, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a four-spoke steering wheel, all reminiscent of past Renault SUV designs. Depending on the version, the inside will have wood inlays mixed with piano black and fake brushed metal. 17-inch alloy wheels will come with higher-end models.

Regarding powertrain, the Kardian SUV is equipped with a brand-new 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine. It is paired to a six-speed DCT automatic gearbox and produces 125 bhp and 220 Nm of torque. The Kiger also has a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine that produces 100 bhp and 160 Nm of torque, coupled with an automated CVT transmission.
The second-generation Duster is positioned below the Kiger. It is anticipated that the future Duster, which is also in development, will be constructed at the same Brazilian facility as the Kardian and will use the same CMF platform. Reports state that on November 29, the third-generation Duster will have its world premiere.
It is rather doubtful that the new version of the Kardian would make an appearance in India. Though the CMF platform, on which the Kardian is based, will serve as the basis for a number of vehicles, some of which will be produced in India for both local and international markets.
