Royal Enfield’s Super Meteor 650cc Cruiser spotted ahead of launch

Royal Enfield is working on several new motorcycles. They will also be launching their new 650-based motorcycle that will be positioned higher than the current 650 twins. One such motorcycle is the Super Meteor 650. It is a cruiser motorcycle that is expected to be positioned higher than the current Continental GT 650 which is the current flagship motorcycle.

The Super Meteor 650 looks like a beefed-up version of the Meteor 350. Both the motorcycles share the same design elements. The switch gear and the instrument cluster is identical between the two motorcycles. There is also Royal Enfield’s Tripper Navigation system on offer.

The handlebar is wide and tilted towards the rider. The body panels look hefty and there is a tear-drop shaped fuel tank. The foot pegs are forward-set as we can see in the pictures. These give a cruiser-like stance to the rider. The gear shifter is now a heel and tow type. Some of the engine casings are now blacked out instead of chrome.

There is a circular headlamp in the front. It could be either a halogen unit or the new LED unit that debuted on the SG650 Concept. The turn indicators and the tail lamp are circular units. The tail lamp is the same one that we have seen on the Meteor 350.

The engine is the same 648 cc parallel-twin, fuel-injected engine that is air-oil cooled. It produces 47 Ps of max power and a peak torque output of 52 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with slip and assist function. The engine is known for its smoothness and rumble. Royal Enfield has specifically tuned the engine to produce 80 percent of torque at 2,500 rpm.

It is being said that the Super Meteor’s exhaust note has more grunt than the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650. When the current 650 Twins were made BS6 compliant their exhaust note suffered quite a bit. The reason behind the gruntier exhaust note of Super Meteor could be the redesigned exhaust. Moreover, Royal Enfield might have also retuned the engine which could have also helped in improving the exhaust note.

Braking duties will be done by a disc in the front as well as at the rear. There will be dual-channel ABS on offer as standard. The calipers were sourced from ByBre. There will be alloy wheels on offer which means the motorcycle will come with tubeless tyres which are road-biased. We can also see upside-down forks in the front and gas-charged twin shock absorbers at the rear.

According to a recent leak, Royal Enfield might also have a motorcycle named, Thunderbird X 650. However, the “X” in the name specifies that there are funky paint schemes and elements just like we saw on the Thunderbird 350X. So, there could be a regular Thunderbird 650 which would look more mature and a Thunderbird X 650 which would be a more funky-looking motorcycle with paint schemes like that we have seen on the Supernova variant of the Meteor 350.
