Samsung could equip Galaxy S23 FE with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1

0 27

The Korean media recently reported that Samsung will skip the Galaxy S22 FE and directly launch the Galaxy S23 FE later this year. We now have more details about this phone. According to Twitter tipster Connor (@OreXda), the upcoming Fan Edition (FE) model will feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor.

The new report doesn’t go into detail about the Galaxy S23 FE’s specs. The source has simply named the processor that will power the phone. They say that Samsung has opted for this chipset for cost reasons. Qualcomm launched the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in May last year as a minor upgrade to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 that powered the Galaxy S22 series in some markets, including the US. Later in the year, the chip giant launched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 that sits inside the brand-new Galaxy S23 series globally.

Since the latest chipset is more expensive, Samsung is using a generation-old solution for the Galaxy S23 FE. This would help it reduce the manufacturing cost of the phone. The Galaxy S21 FE failed to gain much traction in the market because it was a little too expensive for the company’s “affordable flagship” claim. The Korean firm would now be looking to ensure that the new model does remain affordable while simultaneously bringing some flagship-grade specs. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset certainly fits the billing even though it’s a year old now.

The Galaxy S23 FE may launch alongside Samsung’s 2023 foldables

Rumors about the Galaxy S23 FE started to surface recently. Samsung is planning to position this phone between its base Galaxy S23 model and the Galaxy A54 5G mid-ranger. There will be reportedly no Galaxy A74 5G this year. However, it will not arrive anytime soon. The Korean media is claiming a tentative launch date of Q3 2023. More precisely, the Galaxy S23 FE is rumored to arrive in August or September this year. If true, Samsung may be planning to launch it alongside its 2023 foldables. Or maybe about a month after the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. We shall find out soon.

Unfortunately, not much else is known about the Galaxy S23 FE at the moment. Perhaps it’s still too early for major leaks and rumors. But as usual, Samsung should remove premium extras from the regular Galaxy S23 and focus on the basics, such as cameras. We should hear more about the new FE phone in the coming months as the company progresses with its development.
