Samsung Display is one step closer to manufacturing Gen 8 OLED panels for PCs and tablets. A new report from Korea states that the tech giant has contracted companies to construct the chambers where its first Gen 8 OLED deposition machine will start producing panels next month.

According to The Elec, these chambers at Samsung Display’s factories are being built by Hiruja, ICD, Wonik IPS, and Pine Solutions. Meanwhile, the company’s first Gen 8 OLED deposition machine is said to have been manufactured by Japan’s Canon Tokki Corporation.

Dell, HP, and Apple to use Gen 8 OLED

The reports say that Samsung’s Gen 8 OLED production line will start churning out panels next month.

Gen 8 OLED panels are meant for PCs and tablets, and Samsung Display reportedly aims to sell the first batches to customers HP and Dell. Eventually, Samsung will want to use the Gen 8 OLED line to manufacture OLED panels for Apple and its future iPads and MacBooks.

Older reports suggested that Samsung Display will first supply Apple with Gen 8 OLED panels for iPads by the end of 2024. That may or may not still be in the cards.

Samsung Display supposedly plans to spend 4.1 trillion won ($3.07 billion) by 2026 to reach a production capacity for Gen 8 OLED to 10 million units per year.
