Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra undergoes JerryRigEverything durability test

Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra durability test

  • The durability test, as usual, starts with the scratch test.
  • We see the phone getting scratched at level 6 on the Mohs hardness scale but here’s the interesting part. Phones usually have deeper grooves at level 7 but this time, we just have scratch marks. This means that Gorilla Armor is the toughest one out there.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra produces deeper grooves at level 8, which could make it the first in the smartphone world.
  • In comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro Max got scratched at level 6, with deeper grooves at level 7. This is despite having a Ceramic Shield layer on the front.
  • The ultrasonic fingerprint sensor under the screen was able to recognise the finger and unlock the phone every single time.

The titanium frame isn’t scratch-proof, so we see scratches throughout the chassis. Samsung says the volume rocker and power buttons are not using titanium material. They could be aluminium. During the burn test, the screen on the S24 Ultra lasts for about 30 seconds before turning white. The pixels don’t fully recover.

Lastly, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra also survived the bend test. While there was a tiny flex during extreme bending, there was certainly no cracking. In a similar test, the glass back of the iPhone 15 Pro Max almost immediately cracks. This was shocking considering the premium nature of the phone. Apple uses a Grade 5 Titanium frame on the 15 Pro models.

The Samsung Galaxy 24 Ultra has a premium titanium frame, similar to the Apple iPhone 15 Pro lineup. However, the company doesn’t mention which grade of titanium it uses. The phone also features the first-in-the-world Corning Gorilla Armor glass protection, which is claimed to be the toughest glass yet.
