Samsung is working on Lifelike Pixels for OLED screens

0 34

Just days before unveiling the Galaxy S23 series, Samsung applied for a trademark for a new display technology that will be used in future products. The South Korean firm’s display manufacturing arm appears to be making improvements to its already stellar OLED technology.

In South Korea, Samsung has applied for trademark registration (via GalaxyClub) for a term called ‘Lifelike Pixels.’ While we don’t exactly know how the technology will work, we know for sure that it will be used in the company’s future OLED screens for smartphones and tablets. However, it may not be limited to just those two product categories. The company could eventually bring it to other devices, including AR/VR displays, laptops, and smartwatches.

This trademark registration was filed on the same day the company filed for the trademark of the Flex Hybrid term. Flex Hybrid is Samsung Display’s new display type that folds and slides simultaneously. It is designed for future laptops that can be folded into a much smaller size. The company also displays three more display panels: Flex In & Out, Flex Slidable Duet, and Flex Slideable Solo.

If we were to guess, Lifelike Pixel could somehow relate to improved color reproduction through an OLED display. We expect to see the feature used in future devices from the South Korean firm. It could also be supplied to other smartphone OEMs in the future.
