Samsung may launch Galaxy Z Fold 5 & Flip 5 with One UI 5.1.1

0 27

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 may run a new version of Samsung‘s One UI software out of the box. While the latest version is One UI 5.1, the new foldables may debut with One UI 5.1.1. It should bring a few new features, most of which could be foldable-specific. One UI 5.1.1 will still be an Android 13 build, though.

Samsung appears to be working on One UI 5.1.1

Samsung usually launches its latest flagship devices with a new One UI version. The Galaxy S22 series arrived running One UI 4.1 in early 2022, while the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 debuted One UI 4.1.1 later in the year. Earlier this year, the company launched the Galaxy S23 series with One UI 5.1 out of the box, an update from the then-latest One UI 5.0.

Shortly after the Galaxy S23 launch, Samsung began work on the next major One UI update for the Galaxy Z Fold 4. While it was unclear whether the company was readying One UI 5.1.1 or One UI 6.0 (based on Android 14), we were probably looking at the former. That’s because the Korean behemoth has officially mentioned One UI 5.1.1 in the Galaxy Store.

Samsung recently pushed an update for the Nice Catch app, which is a Good Lock module for compatible Galaxy phones. It helps catch app vibrations and disable them. The update (version 5.0.01.02) brought some minor improvements to the app (via). But the official changelog supplied by the company says the updated version of Nice Catch supports One UI 5.1.1.

This suggests a new One UI version is on the way ahead of Android 14-based One UI 6.0 later this year. And if history is any indication, the Android 13-based One UI 5.1.1 will debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5. Samsung doesn’t have any other major smartphone launch planned before the fifth-gen foldables, which are set to debut next month. One UI 5.1.1 may trickle down to some of Samsung’s recent flagships later on, though.

The Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 will debut in late July

Samsung has announced that the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will launch on July 27. The company will hold a Galaxy Unpacked event in its homeland South Korea to unveil the new foldables. They should be accompanied by the Galaxy Watch 6 series and the Galaxy Tab S9 series. There may be other announcements too. You can expect to hear more about these Samsung products in the coming weeks.
