Samsung has announced that eight of its recently-announced TVs have received the Product Carbon Reduction Certification from TÜV Rheinland. This certification is awarded to products that have reduced their carbon footprint compared to the previous-generation model.

Eight Samsung TVs from the 2024 lineup get ‘Product Carbon Reduction’ certification from TÜV Rheinland

Eight models from 2024 versions of Neo QLED 4K, Neo QLED 8K, OLED, and The Frame TVs have received the Product Carbon Reduction Certification from TÜV Rheinland. This certification proves that Samsung is committed to reducing its carbon emissions and minimizing the effect of its TVs on the environment. TÜV Rheinland is an international independent third-party testing, inspection, and certification organization.

TUV Rheinland evaluated the greenhouse gas emissions for Samsung’s new TVs throughout their life cycle—manufacturing, transportation, and disposal—as per internationally recognized standards, including ISO 14067 and ISO 14064-4, and the company’s own standard: 2 PfG Q2880/09.23. These TVs include three Neo QLED 4K TV models, two Neo QLED 4K TV models, two OLED TV models, and one The Frame TV model. Samsung expects to get ‘Product Carbon Footprint’ and ‘Product Carbon Reduction’ certifications for at least 60 soundbars and TVs from its 2024 lineup. In 2021, Samsung received the ‘Reducing CO2′ certification from TÜV Rheinland. In 2022, eleven TVs from the company received the certification. In 2023, 24 Samsung TVs received similar certifications from the Carbon Trust and TÜV Rheinland.

Samsung’s Visual Display Business (which sells TVs) received the industry’s first ‘Product Carbon Footprint Calculation Method’ certification from TÜV Rheinland in the display and consumer electronics segment. This new certification measures the greenhouse gas emissions of a product through its life cycle. The data is collected and analyzed as per management regulations and execution manuals to calculate greenhouse gas emissions. It also ensures transparent and reproducible results.

Yongjae Kim, Executive Vice President of the Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said, “As the world’s leading TV manufacturer, it is our responsibility to create products that both redefine TV capabilities while advancing sustainability efforts.
