Samsung pushes January update to Galaxy A53 5G & Galaxy A41

0 32

Samsung has released the January 2023 Android security patch for a couple more Galaxy devices. The Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A41 are the latest recipients of the new security update. The Korean firm has already updated dozens of other Galaxy smartphones and tablets to this month’s SMR (Security Maintenance Release).

The January SMR for the Galaxy A53 5G is currently available in Taiwan and a few Latin American countries, including Brazil, Paraguay, Panama, and Trinidad and Tobago. The updated firmware versions for the phone in the two regions are A5360ZHS4BWA2 and A536EXXS4BWA4, respectively. Samsung should expand this release to more markets in the coming days, including the US. The build number may vary slightly in each region, but the content should remain the same.

Meanwhile, if you’re using the Galaxy A41, the latest security update for your phone is already available widely. The new SMR is available in pretty much the whole of Europe. The device is getting this update with firmware build number A415FXXS2DWA2 (via). This 2020 mid-range smartphone from Samsung didn’t arrive in the US, but users in other markets where it was sold can expect to receive the latest security update sooner rather than later.

Samsung has already revealed that the January SMR for its Galaxy devices patches more than 70 privacy and security vulnerabilities. These include over 50 high-severity patches that are part of Google’s latest ASB (Android Security Bulletin). These vulnerabilities affect every Android device that features a compromised component. Along with those, Samsung also patched 20 Galaxy-specific vulnerabilities this month. These issues don’t exist on Android products from other brands.

The Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A41 join Samsung’s January update party

The latest update for the Galaxy A53 5G and Galaxy A41 doesn’t bring any new features or changes. It’s all about this month’s vulnerability fixes. The former recently picked up Android 13. The latter, on the other hand, will not get the new Android version. It debuted with Android 10 and will end its life on Android 12. Security patches will also come few and far between. This is the first firmware release for the Galaxy A41 in about six months.

If you’re using either of these Samsung smartphones, watch out for an update in the coming days. You should be notified once the OTA (over the air) package hits your Galaxy A53 5G or Galaxy A41 unit. You can also go to Settings > Software update and tap on Download and install to check for updates manually.
