Samsung raises Galaxy S24 sales target after strong early demand
Samsung‘s latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S24 series, are in high demand globally. The devices broke pre-order records in several markets, including the Netherlands, India, and South Korea. It appears the sales in the first few weeks have exceeded the company’s expectations, so much so that it has revised its sales target for the whole quarter.
Samsung expects to sell 13 million Galaxy S24 phones in Q1 2024
According to noted X tipster Revegnus, aka @Tech_Reve, Samsung has revised its Galaxy S24 sales target for Q1 2024 to 13 million units. The company previously aimed to sell 12 million units of the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra combined in the first three months of the year. It increased the target by one million after seeing the demand during and post the pre-order period.
While it may be a small adjustment, Samsung doesn’t sell an outrageous number of flagship phones every year. For the whole of 2024, the company expects to ship around 35 million Galaxy S24 units, which is about 15% of its total smartphone shipments in 2023. So, given that Q1 sales are expected to account for one-third of the full-year sales of the new flagships, this is a great start.
If Samsung hits the target, it would be a remarkable achievement. We know it has long been the biggest Android smartphone maker, so selling 35 million flagship phones in a year doesn’t seem like a big ask. However, flagships have never been its volume drivers. It hasn’t shipped more than 30 million units of its latest flagships in the launch year since the Galaxy S10 series in 2019.
The Ultra model has always been a crowd favorite
Samsung’s Ultra flagships have been a crowd favorite in recent years. It should be no different this time around. Despite a price increase in most markets, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has already taken a healthy sales lead in the first few weeks. The device is expected to account for 45% of the total sales of the lineup.
The base Galaxy S24 should be the next favorite among buyers, with the Plus selling the least number of units. Samsung has introduced more differentiations between the smaller two models this year, though. Most notably, the Galaxy S24+ has 12GB RAM as standard while the base model remains at 8GB RAM. Also, the Plus model comes with a sharper QHD+ display, which is sharper than the base Galaxy S24’s FHD+ display.
