Samsung Wallet now lets students unlock dorm room doors and make payments

Students at 68 colleges, universities, and higher education institutions in the USA can now store their Student ID information on Samsung Wallet. Samsung partnered with Transact Campus to bring student IDs to the Wallet platform and says it is working closely with partners to include more institutions.
Thanks to this update, students at Penn State, the University of Florida, Central Michigan University, the University of North Alabama, the Stevens Institute of Technology, and other institutions can use Samsung Wallet to unlock doors at academic buildings and dorm rooms.
Students can also use their IDs stored in Samsung Wallet for NFC-based payments at on-campus vending machines, stores, and more. This feature is available at select participating higher education institutions.
Student IDs work even when the phone is powered off
What good is a digital ID card if you can’t use it because your phone’s battery is dead? Not much good, but thankfully, Samsung thought of that and created the Power Reserve feature for Samsung Wallet.
Power Reserve allows students to use their digital Wallet IDs even when their phones switch off due to low batteries. As long as the phone supports NFC, students that enable Power Reserve have enough extra energy stored for up to 15 NFC taps. Even if their phones are powered off and depleted.
The Power Reserve feature requires Fast Mode, which is another convenient Samsung Wallet feature that lets students tap their phones to NFC terminals without turning on their screens or unlocking them.
Samsung says the student ID information saved in Samsung Wallet is kept in an isolated environment on the device, a.k.a. Secure Element, which has a CC EAL6+ rating and offers the highest level of hardware security for mobile devices.
