Samsung announced several monitors and TVs this week, and the company is showcasing them at the ongoing CES 2024 expo in Las Vegas, USA. Besides QD-OLED monitors and the refreshed Smart Monitor lineup, the company unveiled interesting monitors called The Link and an unnamed 3D gaming monitor at the expo.

Samsung’s gaming monitor delivers glasses-free 3D visuals

Yes, we know. 3D monitors and TVs have failed multiple times in the past, so why are companies at it again? Well, they are hoping that the technology clicks this time, with a renewed focus on AR and immersive gaming these days. Samsung has teased a glasses-free 3D monitor that’s designed for gaming. It uses built-in eye and head tracking, and that’s how it delivers 3D visuals, by adjusting the position of content on the screen according to the user’s eye and head positions.

Samsung claims that its monitor supports existing VR games and is even compatible with Steam VR, which means you can enjoy VR content without wearing a VR headset. The company is also working with game developers to bring more content that’s compatible with the monitor. Apparently, the monitor can also offer 3D effects for 2D content by analyzing objects and colors and then applying shadows to them. But we are not sure how effective or satisfying it would be.

The South Korean firm hasn’t revealed its pricing or release date for the 3D monitor, and more information will be released later this year. You can watch our hands-on video of Samsung’s new impressive OLED TV lineup below.
