Samsung’s Galaxy S25 series rumored to run Exynos globally

There will be no Snapdragon version, not even in the US. Galaxy foldables, meanwhile, might still exclusively use Snapdragon chips.

Last year, Samsung made its fans happy by exclusively using a Snapdragon chip in the Galaxy S23 series. This move came after a series of underperforming Exynos processors and massive public backlash. However, the company returned to Exynos this year. While the Galaxy S24 Ultra uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 globally, the other two models ship with the Exynos 2400 in some regions, including Europe.
The latest Exynos chip does appear to be a massive upgrade over previous generations—Samsung skipped the Exynos 2300 to set things right. However, it still isn’t on par with its Snapdragon counterpart. There are already calls for the Korean behemoth to stop using Exynos processors in its flagship Galaxy phones for once and all. But the firm may have different ideas.
According to X tipster @OreXda, Samsung is considering using its Exynos chip—presumably the unannounced Exynos 2500—in the Galaxy S25 lineup globally. Even the Ultra model won’t have a Snapdragon version. While this may sound like a suicidal move, there have been reports that the Exynos 2500 won’t be like previous-gen Samsung chips. It would be built for Galaxy flagships from the ground up.
Korean media says the company has formed a special team for customizing its in-house processors for Galaxy flagships. The team has staff from the semiconductor and smartphone division working closely. The Exynos 2500 is expected to finally perform like a processor developed by Samsung for its smartphones. More importantly, it could no longer be inferior to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon solutions.
There is little chance of this happening
All this said, there is little chance the Galaxy S25 series will use the Exynos 2500 everywhere. Unless the new Exynos chip is significantly better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 (tentative name), there is no reason why Samsung would go with the Exynos in the US. It has to pay additional royalties to Qualcomm for CDMA network compatibility, making it a more expensive endeavor.
Also, Qualcomm recently announced that it has signed deals with Samsung for future flagship phones. While foldables also fall in the flagship category, the Korean firm should be tempted to use the Exynos 2500 in the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 next year if it is better than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. So, we advise you to take this rumor with some caution.
While we wouldn’t be surprised if Samsung pushes Exynos into the Galaxy S25 Ultra in some regions next year, we don’t yet see the entire lineup using the Exynos 2500 globally.
