0 76

On his business trip to Europe, Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman, Lee Jae-Yong, met with the Dutch PM Mark Rutte at the latter’s office in Hague, the Netherlands. As reported by Samsung (via Yonhap News Agency), Lee talked about the possibilities of expanding chip cooperation in the semiconductor industry and solving global supply chain issues.

Lee specifically asked the PM to help Samsung secure advanced chipmaking machines produced by Dutch equipment maker ASML. This business trip marks the second for Lee in the last six months. Earlier in December, Lee visited the UAE and Saudi Arabia, seeking new business opportunities.

During the current European trip, Samsung’s VP is also expected to visit one of Samsung’s biggest chipmaking partners, Veldhoven-based ASML, which is also the sole maker of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography systems. According to Samsung, Dutch PM Rutte showed great interest in the proposition and is keen to expand cooperation with Samsung.

A few days ago, Samsung announced an investment plan of around $355 billion in semiconductor chips, displays, camera sensors, and other emerging technologies to expand its business over the next ten years. The company has played the second fiddle to market leader TSMC all these years, but it plans to overthrow its rival in the next few years.
