Second generation Asus ROG Ally arriving this year

0 20

While Asus’ first portable handheld gaming console, the ROG Ally, started as an April Fool’s joke, it is currently one of the most popular portable gaming machines on the market. Although many people still prefer to go with the Steam Deck, enough people are buying the ROG Ally that Asus can think about launching a second generation of the device, and that’s exactly what the company is planning to do (via Techlusive).

During the launch of the Zenbook OLED in India, Asus’s Vice President for the country, Arnold Su, revealed that the company is planning to launch the second generation of the ROG Ally sometime this year. He also said, “We will still keep the Windows features, but we will focus more on gaming.” That could mean many things but we are assuming that Arnold is talking about offering better graphics performance, improved controls, or additional gaming-related features. That’s exactly what gamers would want.

Arnold also revealed that Asus sold around 70,000 to 80,00 units of the ROG Ally in India. That’s not much, especially when you consider that the console has no rivals in the country (Steam Deck, Lenovo Legion Go, and other such devices aren’t available in the region yet). Asus had released ROG Ally in June 2023. Considering that most brands follow a yearly refresh cycle, expect the ROG Ally 2 to arrive this June. If you are looking for a handheld console, you should also consider MSI Claw A1M and Ayaneo Next Lite.
