‘Secret Invasion’s Unforgivable Sin Is the Final Straw as Disney Throws the MCU’s Streaming Shows Under the Bus

0 43

We all know the MCU has got to change in order to get itself back to the high level of quality we were experiencing during the Infinity Saga, and yet Disney promising to crack down on the number of projects coming out of the House of Ideas is coming as a blow nonetheless. Meanwhile, Secret Invasion may have gone too far with its latest twist that looks set to upend a franchise icon’s entire arc. But, hey, at least Captain America: Brave New World is making some smart changes.

Bob Iger slams too many Marvel series coming to Disney Plus as the reason for the MCU’s woes

Bob Iger is back on the throne over at the House of Mouse, and it seems one thing he’s determined to do is cut back on the amount of Marvel material we’re getting on streaming. According to Iger, the reason for the MCU’s recent slip in success is due to the glut of TV series we’ve been getting, which he believes “diluted the focus and attention” of both Marvel Studios itself and the audience. Okay, so maybe he has a point there, but it’s still hard to jump with joy as we discover we’re about to endure even longer Disney Plus droughts — and can probably say goodbye to Special Presentations for good.

Secret Invasion may have gone one twist too far for those looking for an excuse to tear it apart

The secret’s already out there, but just in case you haven’t heard — spoilers for Secret Invasion incoming — Yes, Rhodey’s a Skrull, which may not have been as surprising a development as the studio was aiming for, but it’s certainly generating conversation. With Kevin Feige confirming that Don Cheadle’s War Machine hasn’t been himself for at least “some” of his recent appearances, those who already had a chip on their shoulder about this underperforming series are claiming SI has torn Rhodey’s MCU arc to shreds. Honestly, it might be too early to say this as, don’t forget, Armor Wars is on its way to clear Rhodey’s name.

Captain America: Brave New World might’ve just figured out how to fix Marvel’s most controversial superhero

Not content with originally choosing a title with uncomfortable connotations, Captain America: Brave New World also features perhaps the most controversial superhero in Marvel’s canon, in the form of Israeli heroine Sabra (played by Shira Haas). As per a new rumor, though, Marvel has found a way to adjust the character to strip her of any contentious political connotations, which should (although that isn’t guaranteed) sidestep any further negativity upon its release next summer. Plus, she’s apparently still a mutant, retaining a potential juicy X-Men connection.

The sun never sets on the Marvel universe (uh, except when it comes to Moon Knight, I guess), so stay awake and alert as new MCU updates arrive all the time.
